Didi Art work of a cinematographer Diana Olifirova

20 minutes of light

As a cinematographer, I am used to work with story and motion, applying precision
and attention to detail, which are very much required in filmmaking.
This photography work is a quiet surrender — a departure from structure and
control.
Using a pinhole camera — a box with no lens, only time and light — I create
ghostlike self-portraits, where the body becomes both subject and vessel.
Twenty Minutes of Light, a meter by meter pinhole photograph printed by hand in
North London Darkroom is from my ongoing project, where the length of each
exposure is guided by a meditation practice — breath as timer, presence as
method.
The two images with the mirrored backings are from the observational travel
series, that encourage audience to look beyond the image, in a literal and
metaphorical way.
My approach to photography is both dynamic and elemental.
Stillness within motion, presence within the performance.
What always remains is light — landing, lingering, becoming.
A letting-go. A return to the beginning.
A full stop.
